The Donnarama Dishes Blog

Updated: Jun 7

Father's Day is coming up (June 16th), so it seems like a good time to think about how you'll honor the father figures in your life. As such, I present to you some ideas which I feel would make good gifts. Feel free to forward this to your kids, siblings, spouses, whomever.

As I have said before, my take on a great gift is something the recipient will enjoy but would not necessarily buy (or want to buy) for themself. So, if the dad you want to honor has a particular interest or fondness, why not support it? There are oodles of gift options out there -- just google and you will find them! Here are some examples:

  • A gift box or a subscription for monthly gifts are great for snack food lovers, chocolate lovers, cheese lovers, barbq sauce lovers, etc.

    • Microbrewed beer of the month club -- click here for an option.

    • Chocolate of the month club -- click here for an option.

    • Cheese of the month club -- click here for an option.

    • Wine of the month club -- click here for an option.

  • Tickets to a game or concert make great gifts, as well.

  • "Yes, Dad/ Grandpa" vouchers make wonderful gifts. The kid creates and then gives however many of these vouchers to their father/ grandfather as they want and then needs to do whatever the father/ grandfather asks when the voucher is presented, like: get me a soda from the fridge, help mow the lawn/ shovel the snow, come with me to [fill in the blank -- a movie, fishing foray, etc]. There CAN be terms and conditions (like expiration dates)... [Props to my son for this idea.]

And then there are some specific gifts which may delight the dads, like these, many of which are available in The Store (and on which I may make a small commission should you place an order):

  • A great portable chair for those who find themselves on the sidelines of their kids' games or for those who simply no longer prefer sitting on the grass watching fireworks or camping. This one is lightweight, durable, and has bottle openers, cup holders, and a phone holder. I think it's a winner, and while it isn't cheap ($169), I know my hubby is worth it (and will be receiving one).

  • Mug warmer -- yes I've mentioned this before, but anyone who has a tendency to put down a hot beverage and then forget about it will likely really like this. ($22.99)

  • An awesome (and safe!) knife sharpener for the chef dad. (Currently $39.99)

  • A fun game (Poetry For Neanderthals) to play with friends or family. ($19.99)

  • Socks always make an easy and appreciated gift, and these have a lifetime warranty.(Prices differ depending on sock type -- most around $25)

  • An ice cream shovel just for dad. For $6.99 dad will never need to wonder which spoon is his!

  • A deep-tissue massage gun will be appreciated by the tired and achy dads out there. This one has 10 speeds and 10 different head attachments to get at what ails him. ($37.99)

  • For the scattalogically-inclined families (or dads), this farter's mug is for you. ($13.99)

  • DIYers may find this universal socket useful. At $9.99 for 54 pins, I think this is a good deal.

  • A plug adapter and USB charger is a great gift for any travelers, so if the dad in your life doesn't have one, I recommend this one (it is what I travel with). ($18.95)

Don't forget to honor the father figures in your life. xoxo
